Popularity of White Teeth

When teeth are new, they are covered by a beautiful white surface called enamel. Few people know that underneath this surface is a less attractive yellow layer that consists of a material called dentin. People don’t have to worry about this layer early in life because it is concealed by enamel.

As years go by, and soda is consumed, enamel begins to wear away. This exposes the not-so-bright yellow layer of dentin below enamel and begins to show teeth as they really are: A yellow-brownish hue. This yellow-brownish appearance of teeth diminishes our appearance and smile and makes us less comfortable in social situations.

The popularity of tooth whitening is now at its height and it seems to be here to stay. This cosmetic procedure improves confidence and appearance. It’s painless and easy to maintain even for those most frightened of the dentist. The dental isle at any grocery store is full of teeth whitening products: Gels, strips, rinses, and toothpastes. Keeping teeth white and attractive has become as simple as brushing teeth or applying make-up. It’s just good hygiene and one of the extra touches that people put on their appearance to let people know they care.

The popularity of having white teeth doesn’t appear to be going away any time soon. New products are introduced daily and every dentist’s office is full of information about teeth whitening procedures that can beautify teeth and increase confidence. Parents encourage children to protect their natural layer of whiteness by consuming fewer sodas, brushing regularly, and staying away from acidic foods, but over time, enamel wears away naturally. At some point in the lives of everyone, teeth whitening will be an option.

The popularity of teeth whitening is aided by the fact that it’s a painless, cost-effective cosmetic procedure that can make people look years younger. Yellow teeth age people in ways that can’t be explained in words. Any before/after picture will confirm this. Thanks its simplicity, teeth whitening is as mundane as brushing and flossing teeth, and the reward of society will be a legion of people with sparkly white teeth smiling back at each of us all day long.

Whether it’s at a dentist’s office or in the dental hygiene isle, at some point everyone will have to face the popularity of teeth whitening and decide whether or not it’s for them. Most people will choose to ditch the dentin and join the society of teeth whitening folks.
